TANVEER MAZHAR TANNA

Former Sports Organizer & Manager, Swadhin Bangla Football Team

Tanveer Muzhar, Tanna as he is popularly known was an extraordinary cricket player during the days of East Pakistan. Considered to be one of the finest exponents of leg spin bowling during the Pakistan days, Tanna was a natural wicker taker. A bowling all-rounder, he batted with skill in the lower middle order and frequently delivered the goods for his team. He was in England in the mid 1970’s and hence missed out on the opportunity to represent Bangladesh in International cricket for which he was so obviously qualified.

He was the Manager of Swadhin Bangla Football team, which was formed the liberation war of 1971 in Kolkata for during which he received the National Award for contribution to Sports. He is the founder member of Abahoni Krira Chokro, which became one of the best sporting clubs in Bangladesh.

His understanding of cricket and football helped him to be a top level organizer, both at the club level and at the national level. He was the General Secretary of the Bangladesh Cricket Board in the early 1990’s. He was the Manager of Bangladesh team that played in the ICC Cricket World Cup held in the UK in 1999 for the first time.
